Home Gym | Gym & Fitness
Whether you’re weightlifting in a home gym or a professional gym, checking your form during workouts is essential—and that’s where fitness mirrors make all the difference. For optimal placement, we recommend installing gym mirrors above outlet level, typically 16″-22″ from the floor. At this height, you’ll be able to see about a foot below your feet and a foot above your head from any distance, so there’s no need to place the mirror directly on the floor.
For the best results, consider installing both front and side gym mirrors. This setup not only helps monitor your form but is also ideal for activities on equipment like treadmills or stair climbers. Having a workout mirror in front of you is far more engaging than staring at a blank wall, and it can even improve your balance.
When mounting gym mirrors in smaller spaces, avoid positioning them directly across from one another to prevent the disorienting tunnel effect created by mirror reflections.
Dance Studio
For ballet and dance mirrors, mounting them 16″-22″ from the floor works well, but yoga and Pilates mirrors need to be installed directly on the floor. These activities often involve lying down, so the mirrors must be positioned lower to provide a clear view.
Keep in mind that our ballet mirrors measure 6′x8′. If you install them on the floor, they’ll be 6′ high and 8′ wide, which may not be ideal for studios that also teach dance or ballet, as the height won’t accommodate standing movements. For better versatility, consider installing the mirrors 6′ wide and 8′ tall. While this setup requires more mirrors to fill the space (increasing costs), it ensures suitability for all activities.
Another critical factor for ballet mirrors is the placement of the ballet barre. In the past, some glass shops drilled holes in the mirrors to mount barres, but this method is costly and can lead to stress-related chips and cracks over time. A more effective approach is to use a floor-mounted barre or attach a wooden strip, 4″-6″ wide, along the length of the barre’s desired height. Secure this strip to the wall with glue and screws, then mount your ballet barre brackets onto it. Once the wooden strip is in place, we’ll install your ballet mirrors above and below it.

Karate, Taekwondo and Martial Arts Mirrors
Form is especially critical when it comes to martial arts studio mirrors. Whether you’re practicing Karate, Tae Kwon Do, or other martial arts, mirrors are an essential part of the dojo. Most martial arts studios opt for 25-35 feet of mirrored walls, which is typically sufficient for class sizes of 15-20 students.
For proper placement, karate mirrors should be mounted 16″-22″ from the floor, with 16″ being our preferred height. This ensures that both children and adults can see their feet during practice, which is particularly important with many young students participating in martial arts. However, the lower the mirror is mounted, the greater the chance it might get kicked during activities.
To minimize potential damage, we recommend placing mirrors on the wall farthest from areas used for kicking, tumbling, and throwing. Additionally, consider installing a protective wooden frame (2″x4″) around the edges of the mirrors. The edges are the most vulnerable to breakage, and this frame provides extra durability. You can easily add the wood frame after installation if you anticipate a particularly active group of students.
